Re-animate the square
“Re-Animate the Square” is the first project of Re-animatori which subsequently gave the name of the foundation. It was a social experiment in which architects challenged citizens to appropriate the public space. This project was implemented with the assistance of the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria (CAB), Varna Regional College and Varna European Youth Capital 2017. As part of the project “Scene Coffrage” was built – a temporary site specific installation in the urban space that aimed at drawing public attention to Musala Square, one of the landmarks in the historic center of Varna, which has been converted into a parking lot instead of a lively pedestrian space.
An unsupported garden has been transformed into an adaptive, scenic and open-air exposition space for artistic events and civil initiatives. With this intervention in the urban environment, the“Re-animatori” team is looking for revival of the relationship Architect – Artist – Society.
In 2017 “Scene Coffrage” became a lively meeting place, a cultural and youth area, and the epistle is: The square belongs to people, not to cars!
The project “Re-animate the square” was nominated by the independent Varna media as a publicly significant project and in December 2017 won the Media AwARTs Award.
From June to September 2017 “Scene Coffrage” was a host of more than 30 events, including: “PLAY CITY”, an event on occasion of children`s day 1st June, “RE SEARCH” – an exhibition of conceptual architectural projects, meeting-discussion on architectural exhibition “Analysis on Urban Environment” with the organizers of ОNE ARCHITECTURE WEEK, photo exhibition ”OUR BEAUTIFUL VARNA” by VINTAGE SOFIA, Electro Swing Fever – a swing party of SMUGGLERS COLLECTIVE. The stage features international names as Miroslav Morski and Frederic Beigbeder, and well-realized partnerships with other projects of Varna ЕYС 2017 as “Get involved fall in love with Varna”, “In love with Varna”, “Mysteries of Varna”, “Kinekod” and others, re-animate the square with their creative workshops, movie shows and other events.
